Raining Art Journal

I went out this weekend and picked up a few things so that I can continue my new love of art journaling. I bought a proper sketch book, some more acrylics and water soluble pastels - hurray! I was also inspired to try my hand at my own text. Christy from Tiddly Inks, sent me a link to an incredible art journaling artist Joanne Sharpe found here at Whimpsirations. I just had to try my hand at large scale hand drawn fonts.

I recently discovered that Bloggabella has Art Journal Monday every week. I was just hoping that my idea for a page would fit, and it did. Today's challenge was to use a magazine phrase or image or both to inspire your piece. This rain idea has been in my head a couple of days and funnily enough while poking through my local sale flyers there was a Fashion Store add with a lady under an umbrella, voila.

I glued on some DP and ripped book text then acrylic painted the entire page. I sketched over the painting in pencil, - which was a mistake, my colouring with the pastels was greatly hampered by having everything blue underneath show through.

I am not terribly creative in the font drawing department so I typed up the phrase in Word and played around with different font types. When I got what I wanted, I sketched it out in pencil while looking at the Word document.

The expression may seem odd. It is a take off on how happy I was last week to have gotten a brand new extra wide umbrella after having been soaked the day before discovering my fall coat was no longer water proof. When it down poured again a couple of days later, I was prepared and very happy.

I didn't use a single stamp on this page, everything was hand drawn. I will admit it took the entire school day today to complete this, and dinner was late getting to the table - yikes!

Tiddly Journal Again

Have you made your entry for Tiddly Inks - #65 Art Journal Challenge? You still have time. I decided to give the art journal challenge another go and whipped up this creation using Lili Lolita. I blurred out my journaling below YOU and inside Lolita's banner.

If anyone knows of any Art Journaling Challenge Blogs, please let me know ;D Thanks.

Admittedly, I coloured this image for another upcoming challenge for scanning, but I didn't want it to go to waste. The only other concept I had for this page was to attempt an argyle frame. Everything else was just free flow. I DO enjoy the process with these, I don't have to think as much just use my visual brain so to speak.

Background:
I wet brushed a sheet of torn watercolour paper, then brushed over it with various colours for the background.. Behind the frame I stamped with a SU - spots and dots background set and dry brushed on pink paint with a stiff brush.

The edges were hand doodled and I stamped on SU - Mixed Bouquet (circle flowers) with black Memento ink, imitate doodling in more circles around the frame and bottom sentiment

Frame:
The frame is SU - Feels like Spring blocked on cardstock four times then I cut to size and cut out a frame opening. I over the argyle with water colour then distressed the edges with various inks and chalk pads, finally outlining it with a black ZigZag marker.

Things With Wings Journal

Good morning everyone. Welcome to another challenge by Little Miss Muffet Stamps. Today's challenge - #18 Winged Things. That could be fairies, birds, bees, dragon flies, or like I chose, butterflies. I was reminded of a verse I have on a little ceramic charm box about butterflies and happiness, so that became my theme.

This Kaitlyn image, just screams "happiness" to me, so how perfect to go with the phrase.

I had to incorporate flowers and swirls ( I chose flourishes) for the Allsorts Challenge - Week #120. P is for Pastels at the Alphabet Challenge Blog. As well, I coloured my Kaitlyn's dress in purples for Make It Colourful's - #34 Make it Purple challenge. Last, but not least this qualifies for the Quirky Crafts Challenge Blog - ABC Anything but a Card Challenge #19

Jan at She's Gone Digital is having an "Art Journal Link Party". Link up your art journal from this week.

Mixed Media Details:
I Gesso'd my (5x7) journal page and let dry over night. Using water colour paints, I swirl around various colours then dried them with my Embossing hand dryer. The bottom left corner I went over with an alphabet template with Acrylic paint. I added SU flower and butterfly stamps which I coloured in using Acrylic paint and a blue ZigZag marker. Added some stamped Inkadinkadoo flourishes & butterfly then some spots and dots with random Studio G stamps. Using my Embossing dryer allowed me to dry the mediums between steps quickly to move on to the next layer. The black splatter is black Acrylic paint water downed and dripped on with a tooth brush.

Oh and I re-tried the facial detail technique with much better results, gotta love Copics!

Art Journaling Tiddly Style

Wow, do we ever have a FUN challenge for you today over at the Tiddly Inks Challenge Blog - #65 Art Journaling Tiddly Inks style. Just let you creative juices flow. You can't do anything wrong, it's all about the process, not the finished product. Here is great artist who's Journal pages will blow your mind: The Kathryn Wheel. I have to run out and get my hands on some Dylusion inks and paints after seeing her crafty designs.

Just a note about our current challenge, it will run for 2 WEEKS!

This is my FIRST ever attempt at Art Journaling - I think I'm hooked! ;D

I started off with envisioning lots of my own doodles within some swirls of hair. I decided the face of TI's - Druscilla would make the perfect anchor and kept her gorgeous wings after repositioning them.

I took a LOT of artistic license with Christy's Tiddly Ink images. Using bits and pieces of different digi's; copying and scaling in Photoshop just as if I were doodling. Almost everything within the wings is a portion of 9 manipulated Tiddly Inks digital images.

I rough ripped finished image, coloured it with Prismacolour, Crayola and Watercolour pencil crayons; glued into sketch pad then free hand doodled with marker. The rest was filled in wtih various pencil crayons, Pearl Ex, beads, dragon flies & key pendants, Stickles, letter rub on's and cracked glass technique.

I used parts a pieces of the following Tiddly Ink digi's:
Face, wings and top of hair - Druscilla
Hearts - Annies Bear
Butterflies - Flutterby
Apple Core - Love At First Byte
Grungy Ink Stain - previous freebie
Mushrooms - Fairy Fae House & Paper extra's
Spider Web - previous freebie
Flower Words - Flowery Wishes
Sea Monster & Skull Pile of Gold - Pirate Mega Pack

The journal around the edges is my ART credo. "May you always have the freedom to let your creativity flow. May you always use that freedom. May you always have the courage to push outside your comfort zone, add more and go bigger. May you always know when to self edit. May you have the confidence NOT to self criticize. May you always love what you've created. All these things I wish for you."

Please don't forget to check out the other Tiddly's Journals. This was such a fun and creative challenge, it's a must see.
