SFC118 - Paper Piecing Monster

So our challenge today SFC118 at the Squigglefly Challenge Blog is to... wait for it, use paper piecing somewhere on your craft. How easy is that!

Don't know about you, but my wallet takes a major hit this time of year. Not only back to school, but many birthday's, Thanksgiving and X-Mas, YIKES! So to be good I went on a search for CHEAP and was amazed at the number of inexpensive image at the Squigglefly Store, there are even a bunch for as low as 99 cents.

This is Monster Mania: Smiley by artist Jane Beljo, available at the Squigglefly Store and he is only $1.50! This adorable little monster is paper pieced in October Afternoon - Rocket Age, actually all the DP used is from the Rocket Age set. I just love the old 70's style computer punch card, it reads Launch Calibration, too cute. Oh and I had just the right size googley eye to fit this monster :D

Don't forget to check out the Squigglefly Store for freebies so you can be entered in the weekly draw for a prize. As well Marlene's Marvels have a wonderful array of samples for todays challenge over the Squigglefly Challenge Blog.

Kraftastic Retirement & New Artist

Welcome back to another Squigglefly's Kraftastic project - Challenge # 108, use Kraft paper in your Squigglefly project.

I have two cards today. Originally I made the BBQ Retirement card for this challenge, but then decided I wanted to try my hand at colouring on Kraft paper, which I have NEVER done before. We have a new artist at Squigglefly too, so what better then to showcase one of her images in my first Kraft/Prismacolour pencil attempt. This image is Secrets by LuLu Lancaster.

I have a very select amount of Prismacolour pencils, in fact I had to run out and get the colours needed for skin tone just for this project. It's a medium I haven't used, it will take some practicing on my part, but it does look lovely on Kraft paper. The pencils are nice and creamy so blend well together. If only I had more colours to have done a proper job.

Unfortunately, my one little secret friend looks like she is naked up top, it's actually a creamy yellow colour, but didn't photograph that way.

Here is a great Tutorial by Dorcas Designs on how to colour skin tone on Kraft paper using Prismacolur pencils. I followed her instructions and colours, but was not able to get all the dimension and shading she does. I suspect I coloured each colour too hard on the paper? Her KRAFT work is STUNNING.

Card #2: Squigglefly's - Kiss the Cook by Chesney Young.

For my original submission for the Kraftastic Challenge, I used SU - Manchester DP which is a perfect match for Kraft & Baja Breeze cardstocks. I paper pieced the apron and pants with coordinating Manchester paper then shaded areas with W3 and W5 Copics. Double Scallop SVG border by Life On the Lamb.
This card was made for my very wonderful next door neighbor who just retired as the Fire Chief for our local Fire Department. Now that he is The Man of the House, he'll have lots of time to grill.

Gear-reat Birthday

My son is extremely anticipating his friend's 4th birthday party this weekend. We went out today and picked out 3 Disney Cars 2 themed Lego sets. Both boys are crazy for Legos.

Have you been to the new Tiddly Inks Basement yet? There you'll find older and discounted Tiddly Ink digital stamps for a steal of a deal. Tiddly Inks has become so big that it needed it's own Outlet site. You'll find the gears featured on the inside panel of this card in the TI Basement; which is included in the Big Bad Dad digital set.

The BB Gears SVG is from FreeSVGblogspot.com, the DP is DCWV - Fall Match Stack.

Rocket Man Birthday

The week is just flown by and we have been busy busy buys. Fortunately the weather held out and it was another beautiful Canada Day here. The kids loved the fire works.

I needed to whip up a card for my Dad's b-day. I was quite happy when I came across this already printed and embossed Tiddly Inks - Big Bad Dad, in my paper drawer. Makes for quick work to have things just waiting for you.

I used October Afternoon - Rocket Age Coordinating Pack with some coordinating October Afternoon stickers. I can't wait to make a scrapbook page for my son with this set, so I used it sparingly.

Gamer Bambino's

Now this should have been my entry for the Blue Challenge #22 @ Make It Colourful. Oh well, but it does qualify for the Squigglefly Challenge #102 Make it Masculine SFC102. If you don't use a Squigglefly image you aren't eligible for the prize, but you are still able to enter.

My husband is a HUGE gamer and will just adore this card. This image represents him more then any other Fathers Day card I have EVER made him. Gaming or Mountain Biking are his truest love's beyond family. So I am super excited to finally share with all of you, what is now my FAVORITE image.

It's a actually 3 Tiddly Ink images combined into one: Gamer, FlutterBy and Big Bad Dad. I asked Christy if we could modify Gamer so that it would represent both my littlest ones. They just love to game with their Daddy. Christy very graciously played with my mock up to come up with this TRES FABULOUS image.

I am not loving the shading on my daughters hair, but I ADORE how my son's crown turned out. His hair is very sticky up in the back so this is a good representation.

The card layout I have been wanting to do for a while, but never got around to it. It's June's Sketch For You to Try by i{heart}2stamp. I haven't participated in all of this years sketches, but have done quite a few. They always have fantastic samples.

As well, my fabulous Rrrred rrrrrick rrrrack is my "R" embelishment for the Crafts for Eternity challenge - C4E #24. How awesome is that idea for a challenge, just give a letter as the inspiration, leave the door waaay open. Very fun.

Lego-ish Birhtday

Today is my little guys fourth birthday and he is obsessed with Lego's. I doodled this Lego"ish" image then tweaked it in Photoshop.

Originally I had planned for this plastic part dude to be skateboarding, but after resizing him and printing him out onto Xpress paper, he looked to me as if he was flying, hence the DP Nana's Kid Stack paired with Long Time No See by American Crafts.

My green copics don't match the SU Celery Green cardstock, but I only have 1 set of coordinating greens thus far.

I did however find a few great sites that maps out sets or bundles of copic marker colours and how to use them. Susana's site has a great "jeans" tutorial that I can't wait to try once I buy that colour set. Check out this site: Susanas Custom Art and Card Design, as well as this great site: Color Me Copic, their experts give their favorite colour combinations.

Pirate Birthday

I finally go my hands on some X-Press paper from Scrappin Great Deals. It's going to take some getting used to, but I can see it's advantages.

Yes, another birthday card. There have been so many birthday's in my daughters class, it seems like the whole class except for her were born at the end of March. The"Pirate Boy" image is by Dustin Pike - Doodle Dragon Studios.

I coloured the image with Copics and paired it with some retired SU DP. I added some yellow Stickles, dollar store clips and SU ribbon. The sentiment was computer generated.

Hubby B-Day

Here's hoping my husband doesn't look at my blog before the end of the month. He is turning the BIG FOUR - Oh!

Taylored Expressions Sketch Challenge #123. For my image it made more sense to reverse the layout and sentiment.
I finally got some new Copics to help blend with the stater kit I received for Christmas. Such fun. I can't wait to get some more - it certainly makes quick work of colouring in.

Fathers Day Feast

With fathers day fast approaching, I needed to whip up 4 cards. I usually send out duplicates to the Father and Father-in-Laws and something separate for my hubby, but this year I scrounged through my sample stamped pack and made individuals for everyone.

Pennyblack Bubbly Critters, DCWV The Fall matchstack dp, SU riding-hood red card stock, Copics, glitter gel pen and Studio G sentiment.

Dustin Pike digital art Fish Fear, coloured with Copics, SU from my scrap drawer and computer generated sentiment.

Stamping Bella beerafella, DCWV The Fall matchstack dp, SU riding-hood red card stock, Copics, glitter gel pen and Studio G sentiment.

The fourth Father's Day card for my hubby I won't post, he peeks at this site occasionally.

Here is one last card of thanks for my daughters Junior Kindergarten teacher.

Pennyblack Bubbly Critters, DCWV Blossoms & Butterflies dp, SU card stock, Copics, glitter gel pen, Studio G sentiment and sticker gems.

Hambo Cutie

I found this adorable & free down-loadable image from Hambo Stamps by Tim Hunter, found here. Tim has some great inexpensive images for sale at his Etsy Shop. I also found some amazing and inexpensive images from Dustin Pike at Dragon Doodle Studio.

I love both Tim & Dustin's images, I can't decide which one I want to buy first, I want them all. I am leaning towards Dustin dragon in the inner tube. His new release with the monster is fabulous too.

I dug through my paper and found some of my old white card stock that works with my Tombows so was able to colour again. Ahh, I missed colouring, paper piecing was getting old.

Details:
Stamps: Tim Hunter- cat, computer generated sentiment
Ink: Tombows, Pumpkin Pie, gray copic
Paper: SU - retired paper, Pumpkin Pie, Bashful Blue, My Minds Eye
Accessories: skittles, nestabilities, frog punch, dollar store brad

TCP Hubby

I was struggling with a card for my hubby for Fathers Day, I knew the image and sentiment I wanted to use, but couldn't quite get the layout right. As well it didn't help that I was trying to use Bashful Blue, Pumpkin Pie and So Saffron from SCS latest colour challenge.

When I saw Jen's (I{heart}2stamp)samples for TCP Tuesday (The Cat's Pajama's), I saw the layout I had been looking for.

The old olive Rose I hoped would look like a Prize ribbon, thanks to Kerry J. for the link here for the instructions.

I excitedly ran to my local craft store looking for large chunky grommets, but couldn't find any except the standard size. :(

Lovely As a Tree was the one stamp set that I promised myself to purchase at my SU stamp club, and wouldn't you know it, I didn't bother ordering it until the last month. Perfect for Fathers Day though. Thanks goodness it arrived in time.

Tool-A-Fella

I really don't have very many masculine stamps, so I have been re-using the ones I do over and over again. I have WAY too many male cards to do for the month of June.

I had a little chuckle with myself thinking I could do up a computer generated sentiment "Your a #1 Tool", hehe. I'm not sure the receiver would appreciate the pun.

The hammer and tool box are a bit large for the Fella, but I wanted to a fella without golf clubs or beer, so used the tools from the Pink Cat Studio - Dress Up Billy set.

Details:
Stamps: Stamping Bella - Beerafella, Pink Cat Studio - Dress Up Billy, Studio G sentiment
Ink: Memento - Tuxedo Black, AMM - Chocolate paper stain, Copics, Tombows
Paper: SU - Old Olive Designer Series & Chocolate Chip, DCWV Fall Mat stack - shorts
Accessories: SU - Chocolate Chip ribbon

Taylored Bubbles

I fell in love with Taylor's sample for her May 15th card challenge TECC68 on Taylored Expression. In particular I love the use of the top note die so gave it a try.

The paper is all scraps from my son's scrapbook Water Babies page. I'm still having watercolouring issues since changing my paper, I'm gonna have to go Copic shopping soon.

The ribbon was on one of the packages I received from my SU demonstrator.

Details:
Stamps: Penny Black - Bubbly
Ink: Memento - Tuxedo Black, Tombows, Gray Copic
Paper: Studio Basics 101, My Minds Eye
Accessories: button, SU - Ribbon, SU - Top Note Die, Scrappers Floss

Aligator Birthday

I am on a roll with masculine cards. I have to do 4 Father's Day cards plus two adult masculine birthday's all for the month of June, as well as the Get Well card that I posted yesterday.

I am having trouble water colouring my images with my Tombow markers since buying new white cardstock. I ran out of the plain white cardstock from Michaels and picked up some Whisper White from SU and some from the local office store. My Tombows won't blend on either paper. So I had to resort to paper piecing the alligator on green cardstock.

The sentiment is computer generated.

Details:
Stamps: Sandylion - Boy clear stamp
Ink: Tuxedo Black, gray copic
Paper: Fall Matstack, SU - Kraft paper, Michaels cardstock
Accesories: Su - ribbon, button, floss, SU - mat pack
